TOKYO, Japan (Dec. 30, 2012) – Over 200 countries across five different continents around the globe will showcase the highly-anticipated ‘GLORY 4 Tokyo – Heavyweight Grand Slam,’ one-night, 16-man tournament at Saitama Super Arena on New Year’! s Eve, featuring an unprecedented assembly of world-class kickboxing superstars that collectively boast over 400 professional career KO victories.
 
CBS Sports Network (U.S) , The Fight Network (Canada), SkyPerfect (Japan) , NicoNico (Japan), Premier Sports (U.K.) Sony Six (India), Setanta Africa (Africa), Canal+ (France), BandSports (Brazil), SkyMEX (Mexico and Central America) and EuroSport (Europe) are amongst the television networks that have signed on to showcase the historic event that will award a total of $600,000 in prize money to its tournament competitors.

In the First 16, or opening round of the tournament, world No. 1 ranked heavyweight and No. 1 tournament seed Semmy Schilt “SEM” (39-6, 18 KOs), an enormous, 2.12 meters/6-foot-11 Karate black belt who won the GLORY heavyweight title earlier this year, will face world Muay Thai champion Brice Guidon (28-7, 4 KOs) of France.
 
No. 2 seed, hard-hitting Gokhan Saki “THE REBEL” (77-15, 53 KOs) of The Netherlands will square off with power puncher Raomoru of Japan.
 
No. 3 seed Daniel Ghita “THE SAVAGE SAMURAI” (44-7, 34 KOs) of Romania will battle Jhonata Diniz (7-2) of Brazil.
 
No. 4 seed, the dynamic, high-flying Remy Bonjasky “THE FLYING GENTLEMAN“ (77-14, 40 KOs) of The Netherlands will collide with Muay Thai technician Filip Verlinden (38-6, 17 KOs) ! of Belgium.
 
No. 5 seed, decorated, all-time sensation Peter Aerts “THE DUTCH LUMBERJACK” (104-30-1, 78 KOs) of The Netherlands will be tasked with fighting his friend and training partner Mourad Bouzidi (73-19, 33 KOs).
 
No. 6 seed Errol Zimmerman “THE BONECRUSHER” (76-16-1, 41 KOs) of Suriname will take on 22-year-old phenom Jamal Ben Saddik (22-0, 19 KOs) of Morocco.
 
No. 7 seed Anderson Silva “BRADDOCK” (32-8-1, 22 KOs), the top heavyweight kickboxer out of Brazil, will meet surging force Igor Jurkovic (44-5, 29 KOs) of Croatia.
 
No. 8 seed and former paratrooper Sergei Kharitonov (22-7, 12 KOs) of Russia will lock up with 23-year-old rising star Rico Verhoeven (37-6-1, 8 KOs) of The Netherlands.
 
The draw to determine the First 16 matchups was held on Nov. 20. GLORY tournaments use a seeding system similar to that used in tennis and other tournament format! sports.
To ensure that tournament fighters are not exposed to unnecessary risk of injury, a ‘Best of Three’ rule mandates that any fighter who wins the first two rounds of a First 16, Quarterfinal or Semifinal bout is declared the winner of the bout and advances to the next stage of the tournament.

TOKYO, Japan (Dec. 30, 2012) – Shinya Aoki (31-6) and Shinya Aoki Antonio McKee (28-4-2) both made weight on the first attempt at today’s official weigh-ins at the Sunroute Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, Japan for the DREAM 18 portion of the New Year’s Eve historic double-header mega-fight card at Saitama Super Arena, live on GloryWorldSeries.com (tape delayed broadcast on CBS Sports Network in The U.S.).
 
Aoki was exactly on the 154 pound/70 kilogram weight limit for his fight with UFC veteran McKee, who then hit the scales at 153 pounds/69.5 kilograms. Their fight, which headlines the New Year’s Eve event, has been nearly two years in the making.
 
Of the other 14 fighters on the DREAM 18 card, all except Denis Kang (35-15-2, 2 NC) and Will Brooks (7-0) made weight on the first attempt.
 
Kang was 1.32 pounds/600 grams overweight when he first stood on the scales. He hit the sauna for an hour and made weight on his second attempt, touching down at 185 pounds/84 kilograms for his middleweight fight with Melvin Manhoef (26-9-1, 1 NC).
 
Brooks was 1.2 kilos overweight for his 154/pound/70 kilogram meeting with Japan’s TEXTSatoru Kitoaka (30-11-9). He was given two hours to lose the excess, but returned to the scales after one hour to make a second attempt. He was still .5 overweight and was given another hour to hit 70 kilograms, which he managed on the third and final try.

All sixteen of the world-class heavyweights taking part in GLORY 4 TOKYO – HEAVYWEIGHT GRAND SLAM hit the scales at the official weigh-ins today.
The weigh-ins took place at the Sunroute Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. The tournament fighters were joined by the eight fighters from the four superfights that are taking place on the card in between the group stages of the tournament.
 
The event is part of a double-header, with the GLORY kickboxing tournament being preceded by the DREAM 18 mixed martial arts event. Both shows are being presented by Glory Sports International, parent company of GLORY, which is committed to continuing the tradition of huge end-of-year shows in Japan. “Its going to be a very long show, nearly eight hours, but I don’t think anyone is going to fall asleep. There is going to be a lot of action,” smiled GLORY chairman Pierre Andurand as he presented the tournament fighters to a packed press conference. “The evening will start with the DREAM mixed martial arts show and then we have the GLORY Grand Slam. We want to revive large-scale shows in Japan.”
 
Heaviest of the tournament fighters was the GLORY Heavyweight Champion and top seed Semmy Schilt ”SEM”. He hit the scales at 130.2 kilos and will outweigh his opening-round opponent Brice Guidon considerably. Guidon, who already has one loss to Schilt from a fight in Moscow earlier this year, weighed in at 102 kilos.
 
The second heaviest fighter was Jamal Ben Saddik, the young Moroccan heavyweight who has already been likened to Schilt thanks to being almost as tall as him. Ben Saddik, the second-youngest fighter in the tournament at 22 years old, weighed in at 128.8 kilos.
 
He faces the hard-hitting Errol Zimmerman “THE BONECRUSHER”, who hit the scales at 114.8 kilos. Zimmerman will be the lighter and shorter man in the fight but he has unbelievable power in his right hand and can KO anybody with one shot.
 
Gokhan Saki “THE REBEL”, the tournament’s number two seed, hit the scales at 103.4 kilos. Possibly the most explosive fighter in the tournament, he faces the Japanese Brawler Raoumaru, who weighed in at a slightly heavier 104.2 kilos.
 
Daniel Ghita is second-favorite to win the tournament according to the odds makers. He tipped the scales at 108 kilos for his opening round match with Brazilian opponent Jhonata Diniz. At 21 years old Diniz is the youngest and least experienced fighter in the tournament but has impressed his coaches at Golden Glory. He hit the scales at 107.8 kilos.
 
Aerial attack artist Remy Bonjasky „THE FLYING GENTLEMAN“ returned to the ring earlier this year after an absence of nearly three years and took a win over the very tough Anderson ’Braddock’ Silva to prove that he still has all his old magic. He weighed in at 110.2 kilos.
 
Facing him is Filip Verlinden, a Belgian heavyweight prospect who has generated a lot of excitement among seasoned observers. Verlinden, who hit the scales at 93.1 kilos, is extremely fast and has very good boxing ability, making for an interesting clash of styles with the high-kicking Bonjasky.
 
Veteran superstar Peter Aerts “THE DUTCH LUMBERJACK” weighed in at 105 kilos for his fight with Mourad Bouzidi, who touched down at 97.5 kilos. An added twist to this fight is that Aerts and Bouzidi are not only good friends but also long-time training partners who know each other’s styles intimately.
 
Russian bear Sergey Kharitonov wandered onto the scales with his customary expressionless calm and produced a readout of 120 kilos. He faces Rico Verhoeven, who weighed in at 115.8 kilos at 23 years old has already faced and beaten many more established and experienced names.
 
Anderson Silva “BRADDOCK”, Brazil’s top heavyweight kickboxer, weighed in at 110.2 kilos and looks to build on the respect he earned for performances against Badr Hari and Remy Bonjasky earlier this year. He faces Igor Jurkovic, 99.8 kilos, a young Croatian heavyweight and sparring partner of the famous Mirko Filipovic “CROCOP”.
 
GLORY 4 TOKYO – HEAVYWEIGHT GRAND SLAM is a one night single-elimination kickboxing competition featuring 16 of the world’s hardest hitting KO artists. It represents an historic moment in the sport of kickboxing, being the first-ever 16-man tournament. The winner has to defeat four opponents in one night to be crowned GLORY World Champion and walk away with $400,000.
 
In the US it will be televised on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at 10:00 p.m. EST on CBS Sports Network. In Canada it will air on the Fight Network and in the UK on Premier Sports. Women’s superstar Marloes Coenen faces submission specialist Fiona Muxlow at DREAM 18 new year’s eve MMA mega-event produced by Glory Sports International

TOKYO, Japan (Dec. 26, 2012) – Women’s superstar Marloes Coenen (20-5) of the Netherlands has been added to the stacked DREAM 18 MMA card at Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo, Japan on New Year’s Eve.
 
The featherweight (145 pounds/66 kilograms) submission specialist faces Fiona Muxlow “FEROCIOUS” (6-1) of Queensland, Australia. Like Coenen, the majority of Muxlow’s wins have been by way of submission and she is riding a three-fight winning streak.
 
“I’m so excited to fight at the most anticipated event of the year in Japan. GSI is producing DREAM on New Year’s Eve and it’s great that they have a female fight so prominently on the card. On the other side of the world there’s also a highly-anticipated female fight coming up, so I’m really happy that women are getting the attention that they deserve,” says Coenen.
 
“Knowing that I already submitted one half of the UFC’s first-ever female fight, I’m keen on testing myself here in the Far East where martial arts started. I’m still one of the world’s top females and have been ever since winning my first world title in Japan in 2000. I’m strong in my mission to dominate the women’s MMA world.”
 
Coenen fought for the highly successful all-female US promotion Invicta FC in her last outing, taking a unanimous decision win over Romy Ruyssen. In her three fights before that she won, defended and then lost the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight championship that was most recently held by Ronda Rousey until her move to the UFC several weeks ago.
 
Rousey’s first defense of the UFC title will be against Liz Carmouche in February. Coincidentally that was also the first opponent that Coenen faced after winning the Strikeforce title. Coenen submitted Carmouche with a triangle choke in the fourth round of their fight in March last year.
 
New Year’s Eve will be Coenen’s 15th fight in Japan, having spent the first half of her career fighting in front of audiences in Tokyo and Shizuoka. By contrast Muxlow has spent her entire career fighting in her native Australia apart from one trip to neighboring New Zealand for a fight in June last year. Muxlow fought in October this year and took a unanimous decision win.
 
In the main event of DREAM 18, which represents one-half of the ‘GSI presents DREAM 18 and GLORY 4 Tokyo – New Year’s Eve Special’ double-header fight card, former DREAM lightweight (155 pounds/70 kilograms) champion Shinya Aoki (31-6) will face battle-tested wrestling specialist Antonio McKee (28-4-2). Heavy hitters Melvin Manhoef (26-9-1, 1 NC) and Denis Kang (35-15-2, 2 NC) will face off at middleweight (185 pounds/84 kilograms) and former DREAM bantamweight (135 pounds/61 kilograms) champion TEXTBibiano Fernandes (12-3) will square off with Yoshiro Maeda (30-11-2) in a 139-pound/61-kilogram catchweight contest. Former world No. 1 lightweight Tatsuya Kawajiri “CRUSHER” (31-7-2) will face Judo specialist Michihiro Omigawa (13-12-1) at featherweight (145 pounds/66 kilograms).
 
All-time great Hayato Sakurai “MACH” (38-12-2) will meet hard-hitting brawler Phil Baroni “NEW YORK BAD ASS” (15-15) in a welterweight (170 pounds/77 kilograms) affair. DREAM Featherweight Champion Hiroyuki Takaya (17-9-1) will collide with standout Georgi Karakhanyan (19-3-1) and TEXTSatoru Kitaoka (30-11-9) will battle undefeated rising star TEXTWill Brooks “III WILL” (7-0) at lightweight.
 
The single-elimination tournament field is loaded with the world’s top heavyweight stand-up fighters, including world No. 1 ranked Semmy Schilt “SEM” (39-6, 18 KOs), Remy Bonjasky “THE FLYING GENTLEMAN“ (77-14, 40 KOs), Peter Aerts “THE DUTCH LUMBERJACK” (104-30-1, 78 KOs), Gokhan Saki “THE REBEL” (77-15, 53 KOs), Daniel Ghita (44-7, 34 KOs), Errol Zimmerman (76-16-1, 41 KOs), Anderson Silva “BRADDOCK” (32-8-1, 22 KOs) and Sergei Kharitonov (22-7, 12 KOs).

Singapore (Dec. 20, 2012) – GLORY announced today that it has signed seven new athletes from six different countries to its ever-growing powerhouse roster of elite stand-up fighters.
 
Four-time Muay Thai champion and flyweight (143 pounds/65 kilograms) sensation Kevin Ross “EL PRESIDENTE” (36-9, 12 KOs) and rising middleweight (187 pounds/85 kilograms) star Eddie Walker “SHOWTIME” (9-1, 7 KOs) of The United States, light-heavyweight KO artist Stephane Susperregui (32-4-1, 27 KOs) of France, surging welterweight Joseph Valtellini “BAZOOKA” (6-1, 6 KOs) of Canada, heavyweight Tae Kwon Do phenom Yong Soo Park (14-7, 8 KOs) of South-Korea, lightweight champion (154 pounds/70 kilograms) Roman Mailov “THUNDER” (23-3, 12 KOs) of The Ukraine and former two-time amateur boxing champion turned lightweight kickboxing champion Max Baumert (17-1, 10 KOs) of Germany have all joined the ranks of the world’s premier martial arts stand-up fighting league.
 
“We are excited about bringing this outstanding collection of highly-accomplished world champions and emerging young stars from diverse martial arts backgrounds and nationalities into the GLORY fold and we are looking forward to seeing them compete on the big stage where they will have the opportunity to take their budding careers to all-new, unprecedented levels,” said GLORY CEO Marcus Luer.
 
The 32-year-old Ross, who fights out of Dublin, Calif. was named Muay Thai North American Fighter of the Year in 2010 and has since been recognized as the face of the sport in The United States. He holds notable victories over decorated Thai champions Malaipet Sasiprapa “THE DIAMOND” and Chunhawat “COKE” as well as American stars Justin Greskiewicz and Chike Lindsay .
 
Despite an advanced skill set and a handful of highlight reel worthy performances in the ring, Walker of Atlanta, Ga., was relatively unknown amongst martial arts fight fans until Oct. 13 when the protégé of six-time world champion Manu N’toh staged an incredible comeback KO victory against hard-hitting fellow American Joe Schilling “STICH EM UP” in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
Walker survived a knockdown at the hands of Schilling in the first round and, another in the second stanza, but weathered the storm and suddenly unleashed a monstrous right hook in close quarters that dropped Schilling for the 10-count at the 2:13 mark of the second round.
 
Mailov is a ferocious 21-year-old battler who is in the midst of a 15-fight win streak after going unbeaten in both 2011 and 2012 while competing mostly in Russia and his native Ukraine. A five-time title holder, Mailov’s last win came on Nov. 8 when he scored a crushing fourth round KO on Armin Pumpanmuang Windy Sport of Thailand with a knee strike to the body during a matchup in Moscow.
 
Susperregui, a 26-year-old, four-time national champion in his native France, made a big mark in the sport in April, winning a one-night, four-man tournament in Geneva, Switzerland. Despite his relatively young career, the heavy-handed Susperregui has had considerable exposure to the international fight scene, facing rivals Steve McKinnon in China and Nathan Corbett in Australia.
 
Universally regarded as the hottest prospect out of Canada, the hard-hitting 27-year-old Valtellini stormed onto the professional fight scene after amassing a perfect 11-0 record as an amateur and has since claimed all six of his wins on the professional circuit by way of KO. A high school teacher by day, Valtellini is a lifelong martial artist who began his training in Tae Kwon Do at age seven, eventually earning his second degree black belt in the discipline before transitioning to Muay Thai.
 
Just 20 years old, Baumert has already made a mark in the martial arts fight world. A veteran of 35 boxing bouts, Baumert has captured stand-up fighting championships on national and continental levels and has competed four times in the last four months, winning each of his bouts by way of unanimous decision.
 
Known for his dangerous, yet graceful kicking skills, the 31-year-old Soo Park is a veteran of the national Korean Tae Kwon Do team who has claimed the Korea National Invitation Tae Kwon Do Championship at heavyweight. Soo Park established his presence on the international fight scene in his professional debut, scoring a first round KO with a low kick on former Japanese sumo wrestler turned professional boxer, Rikijyo, and then taking out Japanese Karate fighter Daisuke Watanabe, also in the first round of their matchup, with a front kick to the face.
 
GLORY matchups for each of the newly-signed competitors will be announced soon. In the meantime, GLORY will hit Saitama Super Arena on Saturday, Dec. 31 with its highly-anticipated ‘GSI presents DREAM 18 and GLORY 4 Tokyo – New Year’s Eve Special’ double-header event that will begin at 4 p.m. JST with a stacked DREAM Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card and continue with the GLORY 4 Tokyo – Heavyweight Grand Slam that will be headlined by a one-night, 16-man heavyweight tournament
 
The single-elimination tournament field is loaded with the world’s top heavyweight stand-up fighters, including world No. 1 ranked Semmy Schilt “SEM” (39-6, 18 KOs), Remy Bonjasky “THE FLYING GENTLEMAN“ (77-14, 40 KOs), Peter Aerts “THE DUTCH LUMBERJACK” (104-30-1, 78 KOs), Gokhan Saki “THE REBEL” (77-15, 53 KOs), Daniel Ghita (44-7, 34 KOs), Errol Zimmerman (76-16-1, 41 KOs), Anderson Silva “BRADDOCK” (32-8-1, 22 KOs) and Sergei Kharitonov (22-7, 12 KOs).

Das Publikum in der Max-Schmeling-Halle darf sich am 2. Februar auf ein weiteres Top-Highlight freuen! Denn neben dem deutsch-deutschen Duell um die Europameisterschaft im Halbschwergewicht zwischen Eduard Gutknecht und Jürgen Brähmer steigt Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 K.o.´s), der IBF-Weltmeister im Cruisergewicht, zur Titelverteidigung gegen den Amerikaner Eric Fields (21-1, 15 K.o.´s) in den Ring.
 
Hernandez hatte den WM-Gürtel am 1. Oktober 2011 in Neubrandenburg gegen Steve „USS“ Cunningham erobert. Nachdem er auch das Rematch im Februar gegen den Amerikaner in begeisternder Art und Weise gewonnen hatte, folgte im September ein knapper Punktsieg gegen Troy Ross aus Kanada. Jetzt steht die erste Titelverteidigung im neuen Jahr für den 28-jährigen Schützling von Erfolgstrainer Ulli Wegner auf dem Programm.
 
„Ich freue mich darauf“, so Hernandez. „Berlin ist längst meine Heimat. Ich lebe und trainiere hier. Noch nie habe ich in der Max-Schmeling-Halle als Weltmeister im Ring gestanden.“ Doch die dritte Titelverteidigung des in der Rechtsauslage agierenden IBF-Champions verspricht auf keinen Fall ein Spaziergang zu werden. Denn der 30-jährige Fields, Kampfname „Danger“, gilt nach 21 Siegen aus 22 Profikämpfen in den Vereinigten Staaten durchaus als Hoffnungsträger.
 
Hätte er nicht im April 2008 gegen Ola Afolabi die einzige Niederlage seiner bisherigen Profilaufbahn kassiert, wäre ein WM-Fight wahrscheinlich viel früher für ihn möglich gewesen. Doch mit zehn Siegen in Folge schob sich der Mann aus Ardmore im US-Bundesstaat Oklahoma, der bei Promoter Greg Cohen unter Vertrag steht, wieder in die Top-15 der IBF-Weltrangliste vor und wird nun alles versuchen, um den WM-Gürtel zurück in die USA zu bringen.
 
Yoan Pablo Hernandez: „Er ist ein Fighter, der nach vorn marschiert und den Schlagabtausch sucht. Doch ich stecke bereits in der Vorbereitung für den Kampf und werde die Zügel auch über Weihnachten und Neujahr nicht schleifen lassen und durchtrainieren. Ich muss gegen ihn mein Bestes geben und bis zum Umfallen kämpfen. Damit meine ich allerdings nicht, dass ich umfalle. Wenn jemand fällt, dann ist es Eric Fields!“

Ulli Wegner hat es wieder geschafft! Der Erfolgscoach des Sauerland-Teams wurde vom Fachmagazin „BoxSport“ erneut zum „Trainer des Jahres“ gekürt – und zwar zum zehnten Mal in Folge! Bei der jährlich stattfindenden Wahl gaben die Stimmen der Leser und einer Fachjury – bestehend aus fünf ehemaligen Box-Stars und fünf Journalisten – den Ausschlag für den 70-Jährigen.
 
„Das ist ein großartiges Ergebnis“, so Sauerland Event-Geschäftsführer Chris Meyer. „Ulli Wegner genießt mit seiner authentischen Art und Weise bei den Box-Fans eine unglaubliche Beliebtheit. Darüber hinaus erntet er mit seiner Arbeit großartige Erfolge. Deshalb ist es für mich keine Überraschung, dass ihn auch die Fachjury vorn sah.“ Wegner betreut derzeit mit Arthur Abraham, Yoan Pablo Hernandez, Marco Huck und Cecilia Braekhus gleich vier aktuelle Weltmeister. Damit ist er erfolgreicher als jemals zuvor. Meyer: „Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass es noch einmal einem Profi-Trainer gelingen wird, die Wahl zehnmal in Folge zu gewinnen. Für mich ist das schon jetzt ein Rekord für die Ewigkeit!“
 
„Boxer des Jahres“ ist Arthur Abraham. Der inzwischen 32-Jährige hatte diesen Titel schon zwischen 2006 und 2009 inne. Nachdem seine Regentschaft im Jahr 2010 von Vitali Klitschko und im Jahr darauf von Wladimir Klitschko unterbrochen worden war, gelang es King Arthur mit dem Gewinn der WBO-Weltmeisterschaft im Super-Mittelgewicht wieder an die Spitze vorzustoßen.
 
Auch die „Boxerin des Jahres“ kommt aus dem Sauerland-Team. Hierbei setzte sich Cecilia Braekhus (31) durch. Die in Berlin trainierende Dreifach-Weltmeisterin (WBC, WBA und WBO) bestritt in diesem Jahr zwei erfolgreiche Titelverteidigungen (gegen Jessica Balogun und Anne Sophie Mathis). Bei der Abstimmung setzte sich die Weltergewichtlerin zum dritten Mal in ihrer Karriere durch. Bei den Amateuren machte der Berliner Stefan Härtel in diesem Jahr das Rennen.

Keine fette Weihnachtsgans, keine „feucht-fröhliche“ Silvester-Party – bei Cruisergewichtler Alexander Alekseev kommen an den Festtagen nur kraft- und Kondition steigernde Gerichte bzw. Getränke auf den Tisch. Schuld daran ist sein Promoter Erol Ceylan, denn der hat nämlich für seinen Schützling den Eliminator-Fight gegen Garrett Wilson (USA) eingefädelt. Termin: 22. Februar 2012. Der Sieger darf dann Sauerlands IBF-Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez herausfordern!
     „Wir haben uns mit dem Wilson-Management schon vor dem angesetzten purse bid-Termin, das war der 26. Dezember 2012, geeinigt und ein Agreement getroffen“, so Ceylan. „Wir werden den Kampf veranstalten“. Wie viel muss der Hamburger für diesen Kracher auf den Tisch blättern? Ceylan: „Wir haben keine Kosten gescheut, weil wir bei einem so hochinteressanten Fight einfach kein Risiko eingehen wollen, auswärts vielleicht doch verschaukelt zu werden. Deshalb wird der Kampf in Deutschland oder in Rumänien stattfinden. Jetzt müssen wir entscheiden zwischen Cuxhaven an der Elbmündung und der Stadt Galati an der unteren Donau, die circa 240 Kilometer von der Hauptstadt Bukarest entfernt liegt“.
    Was spricht für die beiden Städte? Ceylan: „In Cuxhaven haben wir mit Gerhard Schlichting einen Partner, mit dem wir bisher nur gute Erfahrungen gemacht haben. Allerdings gibt es dort für uns kaum etwas zu verdienen. Und für Galati spricht nicht nur, dass sie die Heimatstadt von unserem Schwergewichtler Christian Hammer ist. Der Bürgermeister dort ist nämlich ein absoluter Box-Fan. Er hat signalisiert, dass er uns gerne unterstützen will –natürlich auch finanziell. Das alles werden wir jetzt genau ausloten und schnell eine Entscheidung über den Austragungsort treffen“.
     Welche Chancen hat Alekseev, die Hürde Wilson zu nehmen? Ceylan: „Ich bin sicher, dass Alexander diese Aufgabe souverän lösen wird. Er sollte dem 30-jährigen Amerikaner, dessen Kampfrekord 13 Siege, 5 Niederlagen und ein Unentschieden aufweist, in allen Belangen überlegen sein. Natürlich nehmen wir diese tolle Möglichkeit keineswegs auf die leichte Schulter. Deshalb trainiert Alexander jetzt auch schon ziemlich hart, um den ‚Ultimate Warrior’ aus Philadelphia für die Chance auf einen WM-Fight gegen Yoan Pablo Hernandez sicher aus dem Weg zu räumen“.

Klitschko vs. Povetkin – WBA ordnet Verhandlungen an!
 
Die World Boxing Association (WBA) hat die Klitschko Management Group (KMG) und Sauerland Event aufgefordert, sofort die Verhandlungen für den Kampf zwischen Wladimir Klitschko (WBA-Super-Champion) und dem regulären Weltmeister, Alexander Povetkin, aufzunehmen.
 
Die WBA hat damit ihre Anordnung umgesetzt, dass der Sieger aus dem Kampf zwischen Wladimir Klitschko und David Haye (dieser fand am 2. Juli 2011 statt) Super-Champion des Verbandes wird und gegen den Sieger aus dem Kampf der damaligen Nummer eins und zwei der WBA-Weltrangliste (dies waren damals Ruslan Chagaev und Alexander Povetkin, die am 27. August 2011 gegeneinander antraten) innerhalb von 18 Monaten antreten muss. Damit muss der Kampf zwischen Wladimir Klitschko und dem gegen Chagaev siegreichen Alexander Povetkin vor dem 26. Februar ausgetragen werden.
 
Povetkin-Promoter Kalle Sauerland: „ Wir sind sehr erfreut, dass Povetkin der nächste Gegner von Wladimir Klitschko sein wird. Wir sehen Wladimir als großen Champion, aber Alexander ist ein sehr ernst zu nehmender Herausforderer. Ein Kampf zwischen zwei ehemaligen Olympiasiegern ist immer eine besondere Sache und stellt ein echtes Schwergewichts-Highlight für alle Boxfans auf der ganzen Welt dar.“
 
Sauerland Event Geschäftsführer, Chris Meyer fügt hinzu: „Wir haben jetzt eine Frist von vier Wochen, um diesen Kampf zu verhandeln und wir werden KMG noch heute kontaktieren. In der Vergangenheit haben wir bereits bei vielen Kampfabenden als Co-Promoter fungiert, sodass ich mir sicher bin, dass wir professionelle Gespräche führen werden. Sollten wir kein Verhandlungsergebnis erzielen können, sind wir darauf vorbereitet, in die Versteigerung für das Austragungsrecht des Kampfes zu gehen.“
